Reviews

Overall, the tour greatly exceeded my expectations.

My favorite rides were the days we rode to/through the 5 Lakes and the last day into Kyoto (along the river, through the bamboo forest, down all those twisty curves). So many nice routes though; it is hard to choose!
I also enjoyed the stork museum visit and the Eihei-ji temple.
And lunch on the last day at someone's home was really wonderful.  Excellent food and a lovely atmosphere.
Overall, the tour greatly exceeded my expectations.,  It was wonderful to be on quiet roads with beautiful scenery and excellent support throughout!  Tea breaks were well done; no nice to have hot tea or coffee available.  I greatly appreciate the support you gave me with respect to tunnels!!!!  And I loved my bike though next time I will opt for a road bike.
Thank you for all the photos and video.  So nice to have those memories captured in one place.

Accommodations

We prioritize supporting local tourism and economies by choosing traditional Japanese lodgings such as ryokans, minshuku (family-run guesthouses), and other local accommodations. These establishments often feature on-site onsens, or natural hot springs, and provide the unique experience of sleeping on futons laid out on tatami mats. Opting for such accommodations is certainly the best choice for those seeking to experience authentic Japanese hospitality. However, there are several important considerations to keep in mind prior to your stay.

  • Traditional Japanese rooms do not have beds; instead, they feature a futon mat laid out on a tatami straw-woven floor for sleeping. The photo shows what a typical ryokan room looks like.

  • Most accommodations provide a "Yukata," a traditional night robe, which you can wear to the hot spring and on-site restaurants. If you enjoy wearing a yukata, you may not need to bring as much nightwear.

  • Many ryokans offer a pleasant public Onsen (hot spring) for communal use, and as such, some rooms may not have their own shower and bath. The public onsen includes a washing area where you can clean yourself.

  • In some ryokans, particularly those in remote areas, toilets may not be available in each room. Instead, there are shared public toilets on the premises.

Please come and spend a relaxing time enjoying the graceful space woven by the nature of the four seasons and the cuisine made with carefully selected seasonal ingredients from the mountains and sea, where your body and mind will be completely satisfied.

The interior of the 130-year-old irimoya-style house has a wooden-paneled hall with a hearth, thick shiny black ceiling pillars, a Shinto altar, and a wall clock, making it feel like you've traveled back in time. You can experience staying overnight in an old thatched roof house while tasting the famous chicken sukiyaki.
